I research, write, and teach about the cultural function of storytelling across forms and media and over time. I am currently an Associate Professor of English at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where I teach courses in 19th-Century Literature and Culture, Adaptation Studies, Gender Studies, and Career Education for Liberal Arts majors. And (if you can't tell) I'm a fan and scholar of all things Frankenstein.
After completing the PhD and before joining the ranks of the ever-elusive tenure-line faculty, I worked in university administration in an alt-ac/non-ac position. Now that I am back in academia, I am committed to mentoring students for a range of possible career options available to liberal arts graduates (especially those with advanced degrees). In this goal, I am part of a rapidly growing community of alternative-academic, post-academic, career diversity advocates and mentors. (You can find many of us on Twitter.) You can read a brief overview of my experience in the following piece I published in MLA's Profession, "From Alt-Ac to Tenure Track: The Need for Diversifying Faculty Experience."
